Directions when travelling North

For walkers: Follow State Highway 1 North from Christchurch. About 30km north of Cheviot look for the turning on the right immediately after the Conway River bridge, signposted to Conway Flat and Claverley. Turn right and follow the road alongside the river for 3.3km, until you reach the first turning on your right. Turn right over the bridge, and follow the road for 4km until you see the big mailbox on the right hand side of the road labelled Ngaroma, just after the big blue woolshed on the right and between two small bridges (NB. If you have reached unsealed road, you have gone too far!). Turn right up the gravel driveway and follow it up the hill and round to the left, to the house.

For bikers: Follow State Highway 1 North from Christchurch. About 20km north of Cheviot you will see the signs for the Staging Post. Turn right and follow the road for about 1.3km, until you see the drive into the Staging Post on your right (well signposted). Turn right up the driveway and follow it round to the left, to Ash House.

Directions when travelling South

For walkers: Follow State Highway 1 South from Kaikoura. About 38km south of Kaikoura the road goes down a hill and under a railway bridge. Immediately after the railway bridge take the turning on the left signposted to Conway Flat and Claverley. Follow the road alongside the river for 3.3km, until you reach the first turning on your right. Turn right over the bridge, and follow the road for 4km until you see the big mailbox at the side of the road labelled Ngaroma, just after the big blue woolshed on the right and between two small bridges (NB. If you have reached unsealed road, you have gone too far!). Turn right up the gravel driveway and follow it up the hill and round to the left, to the house.

For bikers: Follow State Highway 1 South from Kaikoura. About 50km south of Kaikoura you will see the signs for the Staging Post. Turn left and follow the road for about 1.3km, until you see the drive into the Staging Post on your right (well signposted). Turn right up the driveway and follow it round to the left, to Ash House.
